Partecipation Announcement
The most original design of the "Monument to the Italian Lira"

  1. A competition has been announced for the submission of the most original design towards the creation of a "Monument to the Italian Lira"-"The Golden Lira". The monument will be produced by an organizational company and displayed in an Italian Governmental building.

  2. This initiative has been extended to Italians of all ages, especially students of all grades (from elementary to university) in both public and private schools. Any designs submitted by minors must be accompanied by a letter of authorization from a parent, guardian, or scholastic institute on behalf of the student. The same rule applies for groups or classes of students. Participation is greatly encouraged to Italian citizens living abroad who would also like to join in on this commemorative event.

  3. Every design must contain a representation of the 1951 1-Lira Italian coin, or at least appeal to the image the coin represents, preferably uniting the idea with the most notorious Italian bank notes.

  4. Designs may be submitted by either individuals or groups of individuals, in color and/or in black and white, on preferably A4-formatted (A3 may be accepted as well) paper or poster board. Each design must be accompanied by a statement containing all anagraphic data of the persons involved, including addresses and telephone numbers. One should also include a brief description of the artist's purpose and intention in developing the design.

  5. Designs must be sent in a closed envelope by, and no later than, 30th March, 2002 to the following address: Comitato Celebrazioni III Millennio "La Lira D'Oro"-Collezioni Numismatiche Via Cola di Rienzo, 9 00192, Rome-Italy. For further information, please contact us at the following number: +396.36000140.

  6. A jury composed of specialists and authorities in the cultural, artistic, economic, and numismatic fields will examine the designs submitted within the established terms and choose, by 31 May 2002, the most original design that most significantly celebrates the historic era of the Lira.

  7. All designs submitted will become the proper right of the Committee and shall not be returned to the owner. The Committee reserves the right to use any design for the creation of the monument, for promotional activities via any medium (newspapers, magazines, TV, Internet, etc.), for both national and international manifestations, or for any other activity without the consent of, or further claims made on behalf of the original artist.

  8. The Committee trusts that the sender of the design is none other than the original artist and does not assume any responsibility for third persons that claim to be the original creator of the design.

  9. Any designs submitted may become the subject-matter of an exhibition and a significant number of them will be given the opportunity of being publicized.

  10. The organizer for the III Millennium Celebration Committee, with the support of the Collezioni Numismatiche company, will deliver a re-production of the 1951 'Micro lira' in .008-silver, "proof" quality, coined with the authorization of the Italian Treasury Department, to all those that participate in the competition.
