The Italian Lira is about to step aside as the new common European currency, the Euro dollar, takes its place. It is undoubtedly a moment of growth for our country. Yet, at the same time, it represents a juncture that increases our bond with the Lira; the currency symbolic to our national growth, the currency that mirrors our political and economic events, and the protagonist of supranational evolution. It interprets the value system of our culture, both materialistic and non, in the full sense of the word.
We wanted to represent this bond solemnly through a manifestation promoted by the III Millennium Celebration Committee, presided by the Nobel Prize winner, International President James D. Watson, and by the Collezioni Numismatiche, the exclusive distributor of this special coinage celebrating the Lira.
The entire program of these initiatives has been presented as "The Golden Lira - The history, emotions, and memories of our own national currency".

Each exhibition conceived in this context has been sponsored by the President of the Republic, with the support of the Senate of the Republic, the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Regional Affairs, the President of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Economics and Finance, the Ministry of Education, University, and Research, the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Affairs, the ABI--Italian Banking Association, the Academy of Numismatic Studies, as well as other important actors.
Internationally speaking, the most honorable acknowledgement received came from the European Parliament, with the direct support of President Nicole Fontaine, and from the prestigious World Gold Council.
